Grading and Excavation

One of the essential steps in paving projects is the grading systems. A proper grading gives out a clear picture of the project requirements. Some projects may require a lighter grading while others may require substantial grading, where a sub layer has to be removed to clear out excess stone and other foreign objects. Surface run off grading is done with laser transits.

We at CAPITAL PAVING LLC., characterize asphalt binder to be used for HMA pavement using Penetration grading whose basic assumption is that the less viscous the asphalt, the deeper the needle penetrates, and Viscosity grading which replaces penetration grading and specifies paving bitumen at 60 C rather than 25 C. These are specifically structured to address HMA pavement performance limit like thermal cracking, rutting and fatigue cracking.

Commercial Parking Lots

Our typical process consists of two layers: the first consists of a layer of hot mix binder asphalt compressed to a 2" depth and the second of HMAS (a mixture of sand, gravel and stone) compressed to a depth of 2 ½". This application can be altered according to the client's requirements and engineer's approval.


Proper striping makes the best use of the available space in the parking lot. The level of striping to be done depends on whether it's an existing layout or a remodeled one. Extensive use of signage like arrows is not only controls the flow of traffic, but also ensures that vehicles park correctly, reduces chaos in the parking lot, and keeps pedestrians safe.

Asphalt Maintenance & Repair

Crack Repair

An inevitable phenomenon that maintenance engineers have to face time and again is pavement cracking. A primary mode of deterioration, it occurs in a variety of forms – transverse, block, longitudinal, and alligator shaped. These need to be filled immediately as it gives way to moisture which may further worsen the pavement as a whole.

At CAPITAL PAVING LLC., we know the extent and seriousness of the situation. To maximize the life of the pavement, it is necessary to fill/seal the pavement with the appropriate process: crack filling, which places repair material on the crack, and crack sealing which places materials on the routed channel. First, we put up specialized incompressible materials in the cracks to fortify adjacent pavement. To fill and seal cracks, we use rubberized asphalt sealant in Band-Aid configuration depending on the term of performance.


Patching is a part of the maintenance of your parking lot wherein the problem is addressed by replacing the failed area with brand new H.M.A. This is mainly required where the sub-base has become unsteady as the patch fails. Once the problem areas are identified, we excavate them until the sub-base is reachable. Then asphalt is put in and compacted compacted to a depth of 3" and the final edges are sealed to eliminate any gaps so as to prevent moisture attack and to keep a stronghold bond with the surrounding asphalt.

In some cases where sub base is intact and not required to be replaced, infrared patching is a preferred option. After the required patching is done, the meeting points between the joints and asphalt are sealed with a rubberized sealant.


Sealcoating is a very vital preventive maintenance service to preserve your asphalt investment. After the borders are sealed by hand, two layers of commercial grade sealer are spread using state of the art equipment. The best quality coal tar sealer is used after being heated to more than 122°F (50°C) to make it a tough and durable charcoal black barrier.

Sealcoating can be completely flexible according to your requirements; for example, the sand load can be higher for areas with pedestrian traffic. Rest assured, your project will have the adequate mix and application as per your project manager.
